SOCIAL SECURITY'S SWEET SPOT
The sweet spot for Social Security disability is age 50. It's easier to get approved at 50+.
The reason is simple: it's the age category. Persons under age 50 are in an age group known as "younger individuals." At 50, you move into a group labeled "Approaching Advanced Age." At 55, you are a member of the "Advanced Age" category.
Beginning at age 50, Social Security relaxes the rules a little. At 55, they relax them even more. It becomes possible at age 50 to use the grid rules to be approved. These are formally known as the Medical-Vocational guidelines, which are not available to younger individuals.
While younger persons can and do frequently get approved for SSDI benefits, it's no secret that being 50-plus can make it easier.
