VETERANS GET SOCIAL SECURITY
Disabled veterans can get both VA benefits and Social Security benefits. The processes are somewhat different.
When you serve in the US military, you pay into the Social Security system. Therefore, if a disability occurs, you may be able to receive Social Security Disability (SSDI) payments in addition to VA disability and/or retirement payments.
Receiving SSDI benefits will not reduce your VA benefits or vice-versa. Disabled veterans who became disabled while on active duty (for any reason) may file SSDI claims under the Wounded Warrior provisions.
It is possible to file a Social Security claim while still on active military duty and receiving active duty pay. The key is that you are not able to perform your military duties.
There are parts of the regulations that are quite different for veterans. If you are pursuing an SSDI claim as a disabled veteran, let one of our specialists help you through the process.
